Helsinki, Finland – THQ Inc. officially announced on June 19, 2007 the development of Warhammer® 40,000™: Squad Command™ for the Sony PSP and the Nintendo DS. The Helsinki-based RedLynx is proud to announce being the developer of the game.
The team, consisting of hand-picked game development professionals, will be delivering a unique set of features with a strong Warhammer 40,000 touch, taking full advantage of the platforms’ capabilities.
Currently the development team is focusing all of its energy on finalizing Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command, due to be released 2007.
“To be able to work with THQ and to create a game set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe is a unique opportunity. We want to use it to create a game that everyone can be genuinely proud of – a game made without a single compromise in its quality,” says Miika Tams, the game’s producer at RedLynx.
“Handheld gaming consoles and multiplayer gaming are two quickly expanding areas of the games industry. It’s a privilege and a pleasure to get to unite these two trends – and to do it with remarkable names, such as THQ and Games Workshop. This is something gamers can really look forward to,” says Tero Virtala, RedLynx’s CEO.
The Finnish game development business has undergone major growth during recent years. RedLynx continues up that trend and makes new waves with the first major and globally significant license-based game ever developed in Finland. Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command is also a significant milestone for Finnish multiplatform development, as it is the first Finnish game that has been developed simultaneously for the two leading handheld gaming consoles, the Sony PSP and the Nintendo DS.
